Rochelle Louisiana Photos
Rochelle Was a large town near Georgetown that was abondoned in the 40s when the town moved. Old us165 used to run through the town but was moved and new bridges were built. You can see the old mill ponds when driving north of Georgetown and the old US 165 abandonded bridges. You used to be able to drive down the old us 165 but the roads are now blocked and you can only walk down them.

Above are 2 aircraft photos taken before the mill closed. If you have any other photos of Rochelle please submit them to me.

The photo on the right shows why the bridges are blocked. The road is washed out .

My father, Harry Scott Jackson, was born in Rochelle. He was the son of Harry Winston Jackson and Gettie Idonia Bailey (daughter of C. Plemon Bailey). I would love to learn about my grandfather and grandmother, and know a little about the town of Rochelle. Let me know if you have any information.
Looking for a family Murphy from the Rochelle lumber mill circa 1920, daughters Margaret, Dorothy were sent off to high school in New Orleans.
My father (James Wimberly Tooke V) was born in Rochelle. His father, James Wimberly Tooke IV, and mother, Paula Montgomery, met there. His father-in-law, William Brooks Montgomery, ran the general store. They were married in 1925, so the time frame was during the early 20’s. When they were married they lived on “silk stocking row”, the area where the white collar Treemont officials worked. I don’t know when they moved away from Rochelle. Dad has pictures of the Moore family (Son Moore?) who lived nearby. Maybe I can direct him to this site to read your comments. He might know the Murphys or others mentioned here.
my greatgrandmother was the postmaster of Rochelle.the the brick slab is still there where the building stood.I have the type writer she used there.I do not know her name,we just called her Granny Carter. My Grandfather was named Hufford Carter.I would like to know more about their history if anyone knows.I can be reached at fixitbuck@aol.com
When Rochelle moved out we moved to Need More. We lived next to Mrs Carter . She had two grand children that spent most of the summers with her. We all spent a lot of time to gather during summer then the boy and girl went back south Louisiana untill next year.Their uncle had a convertable car.I think the man with the new car was called—Lionell ?????. There is only two of the origianal houses still stanmding. Several of us still work on the grave yard and put up a flag where the old flag pole had been flying in the school yard.
